Roots Community Education at The Children's Museum of Southern Oregon is designed to provide an engaging learning experience for children of all ages. We offer a full menu of well-balanced learning experiences that include art, fine motor skills, gross motor skills, STEAM skills, literacy, culinary skills, clay, music and more! Our programs are fun and engaging, but also focus on providing children with the necessary tools to learn, grow, and develop. We add and switch out programs regularly to keep things fresh and exciting.
Art Room with Sue
Art & Fine Motor Skills
Come to The Makery and join Teacher Sue for a fun, unique art activity, with a new project each week. All supplies are provided, just bring your creativity! Join us in The Makery for this program.

Ballet Basics
Gross Motor
Get your introduction to ballet technique, stretches, and some fun dancing exercises! Learn some of the fundamentals of ballet in a relaxed environment with movement activities, dance-related games, and stories that highlight the art of dance. Join us in The Gathering Grove for this program.

Bisqueware Painting @ The Annex
Art & Fine Motor Skills
Come choose your pre-fired ceramic pottery piece and have fun painting!

Explore with clay by hand-building to create functional and/or sculptural objects for fun, no purchase necessary. Want to take your clay masterpiece home? No problem, the clay is available to purchase! TCMSO Membership or daily admission required. Join us in The Annex for this program.

Coil Pot Creations
Art & Fine Motor Skills
Using clay, kids will learn how to roll, shape, and join coils of clay together to create unique and beautiful pots! Join us in The Annex for this program.

Cylinder Creation @ The Annex
Art & Fine Motor Skills
Come create cylinder art pieces with us! Learn how to build, smooth, and form with clay in our Clay Studio. Free entry with membership or daily admission. Clay will need to be purchased at the studio to participate. Join us in The Annex for this program.

Fun with Food
Culinary Skills & Fine Motor Skills
These programs are free with admission to the museum. Families will need to arrive at the start of the program at 2pm to participate as they are going to be working together to make a dish with our instructors and it will take the whole hour to prepare the food, eat, and clean up.

STEAM & Fine Motor Skills
Come build with us! Our Master Builder classes are designed for children 2 and up who enjoy building with Lego’s and participating in collaborative play with their peers. Families are encouraged to build whatever their imagination creates in a guided environment with lots of Lego’s provided for all! Join us in The Makery for this program.
